On May 17, in the framework of the working meeting, colleagues from Finland visited the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The delegation visited the 25th State Fire and Rescue Unit to get acquainted with the organization of the service, material and technical base and the work of the capital's rescuers.
Ilka Horelli, Director for Emergency Situations and Preparedness of the Regional State Administrative Agency of South-Western Finland, Mika Grondal, Chief Instructor for Civil Protection, State Academy for Emergency Situations, Tommy Virtanen, Head of Preparedness, Red Cross, southwest Finland, Veiko Salminen - Honorary Chairman of the volunteer fire brigade of Lahti city , Finland, Pekka Sippola - responcible for preparation of volunteer fire brigades of Iulojärvi city, Finland, Paz Uurasmaa - head of the Finnish Firefighters Association training.
During the meeting, general issues of development and reform of the Ukrainian system in the field of civil protection, the organization of emergency services in sparsely populated rural areas were discussed. Foreign colleagues shared their experience in forming voluntary associations, that cooperate with fire safety services.
Metropolitan rescuers conducted a guided tour for the colleagues from Finland to the 25th State Fire and Rescue Unit of Kyiv city. The fire and rescue equipment, hardwere and supplies used by fire brigade for daily use were demonstrated to the guests. Also, colleagues were familiarized to the rescuers service. In addition, the guests were shown the Museum of the history of fire fighting equipment in Kiev and made a presentation on the competencies of local authorities in organizing civil protection activities.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian and Finnish rescuers shared their experience in the field of fire safety and discussed the prospects for further cooperation.
